Project Description

APM Terminals Liberia operates a state-of-the-art multi-purpose port in the Freeport of Monrovia on a 25-year concession from the Government of Liberia. With a capacity of approximately 200,00 TEU per year, the terminal also has facilities for General Cargo (Rice, Wheat, Cement, Clinker, Limestone, Gypsum etc), Project Cargo and Break Bulk, and provides pilotage and towing services.

APM Terminals commenced operations in February 2011 and completed a USD 125 million upgrade of the facility in 2017. The terminal was upgraded to internationally recognized standards, with fully paved yard, specialist reefer facilities, biometric access control and full CCTV coverage for the highest levels of security, and 4 x 500kva generators providing triple redundancy for business continuity.

The terminals now support more than 1,300 direct and contracted employment opportunities. Since 2017 when the phase II investment was completed, General Cargo volumes have grown consistently from 726m to a projected 1,145m metric tonnes in 2021. Container volumes have seen similar growth, increasing from 89 TEU in 2017 to a projected 110 TEU in 2021. Between 2011 and 2020 APM Terminals Liberia also made over USD 107 mill of direct contributions to the government and people of Liberia. Contributions were made via concession fees, corporate and employee taxes and land lease fees.

Maybert worked with the Main Contractor CHEC (China Harbor Engineering Company Limited) and International Consultants Cullen Grummit and Roe UK Limited to execute all the HVAC system in the state of art Office Complex for APM Terminal. A VRF System with cassette, fresh air and high wall indoor units were adopted for the air conditioning system. Inline and wall mounted extractor fans were adopted for the extraction system in the washrooms and kitchens. A Closed Control Unit (CCU) with timer was adopted to provide precision cooling for the server room. The client and contractor were very impressed with our work and presented us with awards as a token of appreciation before completion. The HVAC project which began in 2016 was completed and handed over successfully in 2017. We still provide technical assistance for the client up to date.
